The PAX community coordinator is an independent contractor who represents the PAX program in the local community. Working directly with a regional director in the national office, the community coordinator helps to facilitate the placement and supervision of exchange students in high schools and with host families. Although there is no minimum, it is expected that the community coordinator will place three or four students each year.

Is the community coordinator position right for you?
Are you interested in other cultures and languages?
Do you enjoy teens?
Do you like to travel?
Are you outgoing, familiar with your community and able to actively network?
Would you enjoy a flexible part time job that brings you a little compensation and a lot of fun?

If you are chosen to be a PAX community coordinator, you will have an opportunity to

• arrange homestays and high school enrollment for foreign teenagers
• represent PAX study and travel abroad opportunities to local students
• earn generous commissions
• attend the annual PAX national meeting, held each year at a different resort location
• earn travel benefits that enable you and your family to travel domestically and internationally
• make new friends, both at home and around the world.

What are the qualifications for being a successful community coordinator?

An ideal candidate for the community coordinator position has superb networking, teamwork, written and oral communication and presentation skills, along with an entrepreneurial drive and the ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.

The community coordinator candidate needs strong organizational skills and must be comfortable in the fast-paced evolving environment of student exchange where key players, policies and procedures can and do change regularly.

The position requires not only that the person be mission driven, but also level-headed, adaptable, tenacious and prepared for the fact that it might take as many as 20 phone calls to find one family able to host a student.

What does the hire process for a new coordinator involve?

Once the application is submitted on the PAX website, and assuming the position is still open, the candidate receives an email describing the position in detail.

If the candidate is still interested, a phone interview is scheduled.

Upon completion of the interview, a PAX national office staff member checks the candidate’s two references and facilitates a criminal background check.

Once approved, a hire offer for the coordinator position is made.

Is it safe to do a criminal background check online?

Submitting personal information electronically for a background check is extremely safe. Through the use of an industry-standard approved provider and encryption technologies, one can feel safe knowing that the personal information is being received securely and is safe from any misuse.

Is there any training required for the coordinator position?

All PAX coordinators must complete two online courses which are available on the PAX E-Learning Center website in addition to completing a newly required Department of State online certification process. The first course introduces the new coordinator to the State Department regulations and PAX policies and procedures and provides helpful information on how to find host families, work with high schools and support participants during the program year.

The second course is called “Stewards of Children” provided by the Darkness to Light organization. Both courses allow new coordinators to pace themselves, to absorb the materials thoroughly and to prepare themselves to promote and support the program locally.

Having completed the PAX online course, the new coordinator will be fully prepared to complete the new State Department online certification process

PAX community coordinators are independent contractors who are compensated on a commission basis. The position is part time, flexible, and managed from home.
