FLEX international exchange student from Kyrgyzstan with American friend while volunteering in Mississippi
Zhanna, a FLEX student from Kyrgyzstan, is hooked on volunteering!

Favorite Thing? Volunteering!

It has already been three months since I came to the USA, and my life here is of course completely different because of the culture, but also because of changes that have happened inside me.

My favorite part of American life is volunteering. I never thought that it would be as interesting and wonderful as it is! I have worked several times at a food pantry, nursing home, a daycare facility for mentally-challenged people of all ages, and Bigbee Baptist Church, where I participate in choir and drama.

I love spending time in Sunday school with little children. We made presents for children in different poor countries through a program called Samaritan Purse. It’s wonderful that children have the possibility to feel magic and miracles made by others. I hope that when the girls or boys get the presents, they will feel happiness and my warm hugs, because children need it. It was a privilege for me, trying to make their life a little bit happier.
